BASIC INFO

Shamus is bold, assertive, and destroys the decks. His infinite and raw, but techno-cally beautiful approach to layering 3-decks of rhythm upon rhythm is illustrated in the way he orchestrates each concert and captivates his listeners between the beats.

Shamus Coghlan was born and raised in the rural centre of Canada – Thunder Bay, Ontario.  His intimate romance with music ignited while studying percussion as a youngster; but it was the traditional Ukrainian dance classes that made for an easy transition to Break Dancing, nurturing an affection for Hip-Hop.  He began his tutorial of cutting and scratching early on, and as the Rave movement began to spread its contagion, the seductive sounds of Detroit Techno embedded into his subconscious.  He continued his formal musical studies at Lakehead University, with a focus on percussion, mathematics, and never looked back.  Slotted in many of the massive warehouse parties Toronto became infamous for, persuading wasn’t needed to make the city his home in 1993.

Shamus’ obsession with the science of sound is at the forefront of his character and reflects in his production.  His music is a vivid portrait; capturing a blend of unique creativity, intricate composition and sheer determination.  His pristine ear and wealth of audio knowledge caught the attention of Canada HiFi, a high-end national audio magazine where he writes regular product review columns.  He has become a recognized authority on sound.  Show up at his doorstep with a case of Becks, he’ll invite you in, show you his custom braided speaker cables and run your ear off about tube amps.

In 2006, Shamus launched (807) Recordings boasting an impressive catalogue of work and showcasing his signature artisan sound.  Fans include industry elites Laurent Garnier, Marcel Dettmann, and Dave Clark.  A devotee to uncompromising quality, production and manufacturing, Shamus is set to redefine techno one release at a time and push forward the (807) mission “To Destroy Mediocrity!”
